A human factor evaluation was performed to identify that the large scale display panel(LDP) which is one of the important features of KNGR Control Room supports operator awareness. Six test operators from the YGN 3 &4 power plants participated and five scenarios were used in this experiment. We measured operating performance errors, workload using NASA-TLX, situation awareness(SA) using SACRI(situation awareness control room inventory) and subjective assessment on the design of LDP in structured and freewheeling forms. The results revealed that various types of operating errors were found in the monitoring and diagnosing phases of operations, such as missing important variables, delays in detection and diagnosis, misinterpretations and wrong decisions. The reasons for the operating errors were caused by some deficiencies in HMI design of LDP, insufficiency of operator training and a low level of design completeness, such as an unprepared flexible display, some necessary alarms, information and alarm horns. Situation awareness scored from different phases in the operating dynamics decreased significantly as the complexity of operating dynamics increased. According to NASA-TLX scores, most test operators maintained the workload in an acceptable range during all periods of the experiments.
