In this study, as a method of controlling the braking torqueof the switched reluctance motor (SR motor) freely, we introduced feedforward control in which the current values supplied to the motor windings are stored in the microcomputer as the braking torque data. This method allows us to obtain the desired braking characteristics for a certain motor speed. We incorporated the regenerative braking control technology into our unique electric racing kart system which has an SR motor with an output of 15kW and the maximum speed of 16,000rpm and a power drive unit. As a result, when the regenerative braking control generated a braking torque of 3Nm, 0.15G of the deceleration G-force was obtained, and this was approximately three times bigger than that during free-wheeling.
