Spectroscopic and emission decay investigation of Nd or (Nd,Yb) doped highly transparent Sc_(2)O_(3) ceramics evidence highly efficient Nd-to-Yb energy transfer and indicates that these materials have potential for new Nd or Nd-sensitised Yb lasers.
