摘要

An electron-paramagnetic-resonance investigation has been made of several rare-earth ions in the laser host crystal lithium yttrium fluoride. Spectra were obtained for trivalent neodymium,dysprosium,erbium,and ytterbium in single crystals of this scheelite. The measurements were made at X-band and 4.2K. The ions were found to have axial spectra which,together with chemical arguments,indicate that they occupy Y(3+) sites with S4point symmetry. The g factors and hyperfine parameters were obtained by complete diagonalization of the spin Hamiltonian and least-squares fitting to the observed spectra. The ground-state irreducible representations for Yb(3+) and Nd(3+) were determined to be Gamma (5,6) and Gamma (7,8),respectively. Superhyperfine structure was observed in the Yb(3+) c-axis spectrum.
