The focus is on the patient environment and the basic care services delivered within that environment and the organization of hospitality. Hospitality will be enhanced by assigning nurses' tasks to the employees of facility management. In the Netherlands FM organisations and their processes need to be transformed to meet the new challenges presented by healthcare reform, such as the challenge to compete with each other. In many hospitals the facility and care services are organised on the basis of functions and disciplines. This does not result in the most efficient patient care. Currently the hospitals are changing over to a more patient-oriented focus rather than discipline-based by organising hospitality for the patient, where the service is customized towards the patient, rather than the patient being matched to the service.
