Nanomaterials are often introduced to improve the properties of polymers. In this contribution, octa (tetramethylammonium)-POSS (OTMA-POSS), one kind of water soluble nano particle, was introduced to carboxymethyl starch (CMS) film during its gelatinization by water, and mechanical properties and enzymatic degradability of the resulted nanocomposite film (NCF) with various OTMA-POSS content were investigated. Compared with the neat CMS film, the tensile strength and elongation at break of the NCFs were significantly enhanced to maximum values 38.6 MPa and 14.3% as OTMA-POSS content increasing to 0.4 wt%. And the introduction of OTMA-POSS had no effect on enzymatic degradability of CMS film. The results indicated that ionic interaction between carboxyl group of CMS chain and ammonium of OTMA-POSS particle has important influence on mechanical properties of NCFs.
