Patients with hypo- and hyperthyroidism were studied and compared to euthyroid controls. Myocardial blood flow (MBF) was measured using positron emission tomography with oxygen-15-labelled water, at rest, during adenosine infusion and by means of cold pressor testing (CPT). In hyperthyroid patients MBF is increased under baseline conditions as well as during CPT and CVR is reduced, suggesting an endothelium-mediated effect of hyperthyroidism on MBF and CVR.
