After many years at Toyota, I assumed the leadership of Koyo Seiko and became keenly interested in the history of tribology. I led a project to create bearing models based on da Vinci's sketches, researched worldwide and Japanese tribological history, and led an effort under Prof. Takashi Yamamoto's supervision to publish an abridged Japanese version of Prof. Duncan Dowson's History of Tribology, receiving generous praise for promoting research on tribological history in Japan. In this lecture I will present representative Japanese tribological heritages.
