A direct writing method for making an electrode is an attractive fabrication approach. Printing of metal electrodes can have a potential to drastically lower production costs, especially compared to that for conventional silicon processing. Herein, the impedance biosensor based on inkjet printed silver metal nanoparticle electrode has been demonstrated on a flexible polyimide substrate. This biosensor has been realized with a Dimatix materials printer. The inkjet printed silver metal nanoparticle electrode on a flexible polymer substrate exhibits distinct advantages in terms of simple preparation and cost effectiveness and reproducibility. Colloidal densely packed gold nanoparticles were deposited on the inkjet printed silver metal electrode to immobilize an antibody for peanut protein.
