Synthetic hosts capable of selectively binding guest molecules are of prime interest for applications ranging from separations and chemical or biological sensing to the development of biomedical materials. Despite several decades of research, there continues to be a need for new and improved methods for the detection of highly toxic organophosphates. In the present study we have chosen to study Pinacolyl methylphosphonate (PMP) as an analyte material or guest molecule. The PMP is a degradation product of the nerve agent Soman. Ultra thin films are electrogenerated to study the anchoring effect of the nerve agent onto the films.
