Hydrodynamic journal bearings are widely used to support rotating main shafts in diverse equipment [1, 2]. Under the operating conditions of high load and low speed, the sliding surfaces of the bearings make partial contact, thus increasing the likelihood of wear and seizures. The hydrodynamic pressures and load-carrying capacities based on the wedge film effect increase for higher viscosity at the convergence region of minimum clearance. Consequently, if the converging part could be cooled so as to increase the viscosity, the load-carrying capacity would increase.
