Formation of Low-friction Interface Utilizing Diamond-Like Carbon Coating Containing Molybdenum Disulfide

摘要

We proposed Diamond-Like Carbon coating containing Molybdenum Disulfide (MD) coating for lower friction and high wear-resistance in vacuum. MD coating showed lower friction coefficient than Molybdenum Disulfide (MoS_2) coating against SiC ball. This seems why MD can form thinner MoS_2 transferred layer on SiC ball (counter material). In study, this formation mechanism of thinner MoS_2 transferred layer is clarified. At running-in phase, carbon layer is transferred from Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) host matrix in MD coating on SiC ball. After that, MoS_2 transferred layer with lamellar structure and several tens of nano-meter is formed from MD coatings at steady phase. Finally, friction system is proposed for formation of further thinner transferred layer.
