An In-depth Analysis of Various Subtle Coating Defects of the 2000's

Surface quality of Zn and Zn-alloy coated sheet steels has improved dramatically in recent years with the use of integrated process control at all stages of manufacturing. However, there are still some subtle defects that are difficult to identify and correct. These defects often escape the critical inspection necessary before reaching the end user. To eliminate such defects, it is essential to understand their source causes. This paper presents the micro-structural characteristics of some difficult-to-identify defects that will hopefully help the galvanizers develop appropriate countermeasures.
