Mesoporous silica supported sulfated zirconia for etherification

Mesoporous Si-MCM41 supported sulfated zirconia was prepared,characterized and tested for etherification of C_6 olefins to ethers.It is found that supported sulfated zirconia exhibits high activity than unsupported sulfated zirconia and the property of the support influences the catalytic behavior.S-ZrO_2/Si-MCM41 presents higher activity than other forms of silica supported sulfated zirconia.Investigations also show that the catalytic activity varies with the preparation method and reaction conditions.
