Deoxidation and Inclusions in 410S Ferritic Stainless Steel Production

The total oxygen content in 41 OS ferritic stainless steel after deoxidation in AOD was calculated by thermodynamic calculation. The total oxygen content and the chemical composition in steel, the morphology of the inclusions and the slag composition during smelting process were analyzed. The results show that the calculated total (oxygen) after deoxidation is in good agreement with experimental results. The total oxygen content decreases with an increase of silicon content after AOD reduction process. The total oxygen content and the inclusion size decrease during the AOD-LF-CCM process. The inclusions in the end of the AOD and LF are mainly CaO-SiO_2-MgO-Al_2O_3 complex inclusions with similar chemical composition of slag. Additionally, the types of inclusions change at the different stage of the process. The variation of the inclusions compositions is related to the decreasing of temperature in tundish.
