The emission of carbon dioxide in the iron and steelmaking process accounts for 16% of total amounts emitted in the industrial system. How to reduce the emission of carbon dioxide and take use of carbon dioxide is a main problem which has attracted many steel engineers' attentions. Based on the utilization of carbon dioxide as a resource in the steelmaking process,it is analyzed that carbon dioxide are used as a stirring gas in converter and ladle,a reacting media in BOF and processing steelmaking slag, and a protecting gas in continuous casting process in the world. Furthermore, carbon dioxide can be applied in the stainless steelmaking process to replace argon and oxygen. Meanwhile, carbon dioxide is mixed to oxygen jet to reduce the fire spot district in the BOF steelmaking process. It is found that the total amount of dust is decreased by 25% and the weight of TFe in the dust is reduced by 15.3% on average. Further studies have found that carbon dioxide can improve dephosphorization rate and reduce the amount of iron oxide in slag.
