Electrochemical electrodes for energy storage and conversion are conventionally planar. Here, we demonstrate that chemical vapor deposition (CVD) grown graphene foams, which exhibit large specific surface area and highly conductive network, can serve as novel three-dimensional (3D) monolithic electrodes for various energy applications. To endow it with new or enhanced functionalities, 3D graphene can be hybridized with various organic or inorganic materials by physioadsorption, covalent reaction, electrochemical deposition, hydrothermal deposition, etc.
