This paper presents an Interactive Multimedia E-learning System (IMELS) developed by the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering of the University of Hong Kong for teaching and learning industrial engineering with a problem-based learning approach. With the growing importance of logistics in most sectors of businesses and its rapid development in Hong Kong and the Pearl River Delta region, the IMELS has specially incorporated a number of logistics case problems for students studying the discipline. IMELS provides a user-directed means to the process of knowledge capturing, and through the use of IT and the Internet, students learn through cases that are set in the "virtual companies" that exist in the cyber-environment of the IMELS.
