Results of recent RIA experiments with high burnup fuel rods have suggested a possible event flow in RIAs, which is different from that for fresh fuel rods. In the event flow, heat transfers in post-DNB and post-failure events have a particular importance, because they govern the extent of damage by RIA. This presentation gives results of two series of separate-effect tests which were carried out at the NSRR to study heat transfer in RIAs on high burnup fuel.
