Waterflooding is one of the economically viable techniques for recovery of additional oil from mature fields. However, the brine used for it frequently contains suspended fine particles, which can deposit over the injection formation face and inside the adjacent wellbore formation to reduce the injectivity of the Waterflooding wells. In the state-of-the-art approaches of formation damage modeling by solid invasion, the heterogeneities of porous media should be considered. Sandstone invariably have small-scale heterogeneities, that may cause the effect of injected fluid carrying suspended particles on permeability alteration, to differ from what is predicted by a model based on a homogeneous formation. The objective of this paper is to develop a mathematical model according to an overall mass balance, to investigate the effect of local heterogeneity of rock properties on permeability impairment by movement and deposition of solid particles instead of assuming a uniform porosity/permeability distribution as was used in the pervious models presented in the literature. The heterogeneous original porosity has been generated using standard geostatistical techniques.
