MSkin Intelligent Quality Control System A Breakthrough for the Leather Sector

Mastrit Skin 2002 E!2223 is an Eureka project performed in collaboration with both Swiss and Italian universities and ten industrial partners. The feasibility phase of the Swiss project, called Mastrit Skin 2002 Quality Standard and Global Concept, aimed to develop a global concept by investigating the most advanced state of the art in the leather sector and to identify the technological and organizational needs to implement new solutions. During the explorative research, it was concluded that the leather sector needs: first, a new standard method to improve the current business practice to define the quality of leathers based on measurable parameters and improve the procurement process; second, the development of new technologies to measure and select in an automatic way the quality of leathers; and third, the design of a new collaborative web centred platform to support business to business (B2B) relationships. This paper will first explain the proposed elements which conform the MSkin Intelligent Quality Control System (IQCS) and then describe the Quality Zones Reference Model for the development of the MSkin solutions.
