Humans in automatic shop floor control systems must mimic detailed responses normally transmitted via control computers making the human interaction painful. The introduction of a human in a manufacturing system as a hybrid material handler and transporter provides unlimited possibilities regarding the accessibility of product flow between system resources. This paper discusses the formal modeling specifics required for the control of such a shop floor and introduces a basic formal model for the hybrid controller. The paper concludes with an example implementation and discusses issues related to human factors of the controller design.
