The short shot method is used as a means to clarify melt filling patterns in an injection mold However, with this method, melt compressed in the spur and runner in the filling process continue to flow into the cavity even after the screw stops due to reduced pressure, thus resulting in a clear flow front shape in the filling process. This paper proposes a new measurement method which can extract accurate melt filling patterns by forcibly shutting the gate using a small actuator and preventing the flow of melt into the cavity after the screw stops.
