An injection molding system (100) has injection molding machine including machine nozzle (102) for injecting melt stream and machine platen (144); manifold (104) having manifold melt inlet and melt channel (105) for distributing melt stream; and anti-drool mechanism (106) partially disposed within machine platen and includes melt passage (108), fixed pin (109), and actuated shut-off collar (114). The injection molding system comprises injection molding machine including machine nozzle for injecting melt stream and machine platen; manifold having manifold melt inlet and melt channel for distributing melt stream; and anti-drool mechanism partially disposed within machine platen and includes melt passage, fixed pin within the melt passage and sized so that the melt stream flows around the pin having head portion (110) to be received within the machine nozzle, and actuated shut-off collar disposed partially within the melt passage and surrounding the pin, the shut-off collar and the head portion being configured to control the flow of the melt stream through the melt passage. An independent claim is also included for a method for injecting melt stream into mold comprising engaging machine nozzle of injection molding machine with anti-drool mechanism within machine platen; actuating shut-off collar to allow the melt stream to flow from the machine nozzle through the anti-drool device into the manifold and into the mold; disengaging the machine nozzle from head portion of pin of the anti-drool mechanism; and returning the shut-off collar to the flow-stopping position.
