The concepts of heat transfer are centuries old. Cooling of rotationally molded plastic parts has been practiced for decades. The practical understanding of heat transfer mechanisms at work during the cooling process is not always well understood or appreciated. Yet this understanding can go a long way in determining the parameters that affect process cycle time. This tutorial plows no new ground, either technical or practical. Instead it focuses on this understanding. There are four bullet points - thermal inversion, plastic and mold thickness, shrinkage effect on cooling, and the cooling of foams.
