Laboratory accreditation can be an expensive process to maintain. An accredited calibration laboratory is required to periodically demonstrate its competence by participating in some form of proficiency testing program. Proficiency testing for some parameters may be conducted by the accrediting body. But for the remainder of the laboratory's accredited parameters it is necessary to participate in some form of commercial PT program or acceptable inter-laboratory comparisons. This can be an expensive and time consuming exercise. This paper defines a program that can be used to meet the proficiency testing requirement utilizing existing relationships of the laboratory with minimal additional expense. An example program will be presented along with an example of the supporting documentation, measurement uncertainty budgets and calculation of the normalized error (E{sub}n).
