Hematological tests and serum-component analysis have been successfully applied to the detection and diagnosis of metabolic disorders and pathological processes in fish (Aldrin et al. 1982; Hille 1983; Scheinert and Hoffman 1986; Folmar 1993). The present study records spontaneously occurring changes for metabolites concentration (total proteins, glucose and total lipids) and plasmatic enzyme activities (alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase) in blood of sharpsnout seabream (Diplodus puntazzo, Cetti 1777) grown in raceways, the final goal being to work out a set of reference values that could be used for diagnosing potential culture problems. At the same time, we have also analyzed the effects of weight, temperature and photoperiod(daylight hours) on these variables.
