In [18],the authors developed a non-iteraitve finite element-based inverse method for estimating surface heat-flux histories on heat conducting parts. The method relies on the obervation that a sequential minimization of the least squares norm between measured and computed temperatures leads to a linear, implicitly regularized matrix normal equation. In the present work,an improvement to mis method is proposed by using sequential function specification and future temperatures. Some potential advantages of the method are discussed, and the results from an application to a quenching experiment are presented.
