Review of Current Approaches and FutureDirections in National Ambient Water-Quality Criteria for Aquatic Life Protection:Canada, Netherlands, New Zealand, USA

摘要

This appendix presents a review and comparative evaluation of national ambientwater and SQC from several international jurisdictions. The countries consideredare Canada, Netherlands, New Zealand, and USA. Each country's review comprises3 sections: 1) a description of terminology and legal framework, 2) a description ofthe criterion derivation methodology, and 3) a discussion of new developments,topic areas, and future directions (related to development and implementation).This is followed by a comparison of the different approaches, an outline of areas ofcommonality and divergence, and a presentation of the respective rationale(scientific, policy, arbitrary, etc.) for such differences. A selected sample of criteriais presented in a comparative fashion as well.
