1. Answer the original question: Is it crazy enough? 1.1 Yes it is ― at least for the next 10 years. 2. OSD is the next step in the evolution of storage devices 3. OSD-like products are beginning to emerge 4. Standards are beginning to take shape through SNIA OSD TWG 5. OSD is a foundation on which to build more intelligent, more capable storage devices ― Active device and Active objects 6. Need to work more closely with "application" vendors to refine and deploy the OSD protocol 7. Need to develop an understanding of OSD as a viable solution that solves significant problems that translate into $$$ for both the technology provider and the customer 8. OSD may not be the perfect answer but it is better than continually patching existing technologies and overextending them into the future.
