In order to improve cycling performance of AA-size nickel-zinc cells pasted nickel electrodes containing different binder materials, e.g. polyvinyl alcohol and teflon as well as zinc electrodes with calcium hydroxide additive were fabricated and studied. It was found out that binder type and concentration has an impact on the amount of pasted cathode material and on discharge capacity. Calcium hydroxide additive remarkably improves cycling performance of nickel-zinc cells as a consequence of reduced anode shape change.
