To provide information relevant to Ir-base two-phase alloys for future ultra-high-temperature applications, the compression properties of various Ir-Nb alloys with Nb contents from 17% to 23% were investigated at temperatures from 1200 to 1800°C. The results show that Ir-17%Nb alloy had slight higher strength, and Ir-20%Nb alloy had higher creep resistance and longer creep life in tested alloys. The creep mechanism is discussed in light of the microstructure, the stress exponent and the activation energy.
