Direct drives don't use gears or mechanisms to realize revolving or linear motion. Their mean advantage is the possibility to integrate the motor = actuator into the machine which is to be driven. Thus there are less steps of energy-conversion, less inertia. According to both there are advantages for the static and dynamic performance as well. Some examples of application show the available results of performance and integration.
