Phase diagrams of the CaO-SiO{sub}2FeO{sub}x-MgO, Al{sub}2O{sub}3 systems are necessary for the analysis of copper smelting reactions and sintering process of iron ore. The effect of MgO and Al{sub}2O{sub}3 addition on the liquidus of the phase diagram of the CaO-SiO{sub}2-FeO{sub}x system at low oxygen partial pressure was observed. The liquid phase area changed by the addition of MgO and Al{sub}2O{sub}3 with a changing oxygen partial pressure from 10{sup}(-8) 10{sup}(-3) atm (10{sup}(-3)to 10{sup}2 Pa) at 173K. The effect of Fe{sup}(3+)/Fe{sup}(2+) ratio on the melting mechanism is discussed.
