Fluctuating Surface Pressure On A Cross-flow-impeller Blade

In this research, the measuring technology of unsteady pressure on a rotating blade surface was developed, and this paper reveals the basis features of the cross-flow-impeller pressure. These unsteady pressures on the rotating blades offer the useful information for the impeller's flow and the sound-noise level. Besides, such accurate and reliable pressure information is needed as the benchmark for numerical approaches. However, due to technical difficulties such as the small fluctuation amplitude and the blade rotation, there have been no accurate works. Therefore, the technology by which that fluctuating surface pressure in rotation could be measured accurately was developed. Specifically speaking, the simplest flow was determined for the fundamental study, namely, the flow around the cross-flow impeller rotating with flat-plate blades in open space without any casings. The measured fluctuating pressures on the impeller's blade are discussed in comparison with flow visualizations with PIV, velocity measurements and numerical simulations.
