ASSESSMENT OF PARABOLIC TROUGH SOLAR POWER PLANT IN TYPICAL CHINESE NORTHERN REGION

The use of concentrating solar power (CSP) will help China to change the current coal-dominated electricity generation matrix and save the limited primary energy resources. Abundant DNI resources and large area of wasteland together have made the northern and western parts of China the candidate sites to locate CSP plant in the future. In this paper, the potential of parabolic trough solar power (PTSP) plant in Naiman county, which is located in Inner Mongolia, was studied. Two regions with different geographic conditions including slope and land cover, were selected, and the electricity generation potential was estimated as 3166.47GWh/a and 44.04GWh/a, respectively, based on the simulation results of a 35MWe PTSP plant. The results indicated the potential of PTSP plant in Chinese typical northern region and the importance of the geographic factors during siting of a CSP plan. These findings are helpful to those who carry out the policies related to develop CSP in China.
