In 1997, the government of Indonesia has launched a solar energy program namely the one million rural solar home systems program using the AusAid soft loan fund. More than 36,000 Solar Home Systems have been installed in 190 villages in the eastern part of Indonesia under this program. In order to investigate the behavior of the solar home systems, 10 data loggers have been installed in three different villages in Kolaka district in Southeast Sulawesi in March 2001. In this district, about 2243 and 927 solar home systems have been installed in 1998 and 2000 respectively. This activity was established under joint research activity between the Agency for Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) and Energy research Center of the Netherlands (ECN). The solar home systems installed in Kolaka consists of a 50 Wp Solarex MSX 50 modules, 70 Ah battery, 10A/12volt battery charge regulator and three 6W fluorescent lights. The data loggers were installed in different income groups and different occupation in the village. This paper will present and elaborate the performance of solar home systems, which includes V{sub}(battery), V{sub}(Load), I{sub}(Load), I{sub}(module) and comparison between theoretical calculation and field measurement.
