Interactive Evaluation of Social Process Intervention Options

We describe an interactive method that allows decision makers to visualize and evaluate options for interventions to change social process outcomes. The method uses brushed, parallel histograms to provide novices with access to high dimensional feature data. The user can determine linkages of key factors for outcomes, evaluate and prioritize possible interventions, and recognize sub-populations for whom an intervention would vary in effectiveness. The technique has application to public policy spending choices, educational planning, sales campaign evaluation, and military tactics. We apply the method to understand policy options for changing women's choices of contraceptive methods in a developing country.
