Tendering procedures for the next offshore wind farms in Danish waters

Denmark has more than 10 years of experience dealing with offshore wind-power and today approximately 250 MW of offshore wind capacity is installed in Danish waters. It is expected that a total of more than 400 MW offshore wind-power capacity is installed in Denmark by the end of 2003. In total an area of approx. 1000 square kilometres has been pointed out as suitable for establishing offshore wind power in Danish waters, corresponding to the siting of 7000-8000 MW wind turbines. An important concern for the Danish government is to ensure that the future offshore development is based on market conditions in an economic efficient way. Therefore the Government decided to make preparation for tendering future offshore wind farms in Danish waters. By applying a tendering procedure competition among the bidders will be ensured and the most cost-effective offshore turbine developments will be undertaken. The preparation addresses the background for developing a tendering procedure for offshore wind farms in Danish waters and describes the tendering procedure in details including the expected time-horizon for establishing the next offshore farm and. Finally it, includes the findings of two economic scenarios for the future offshore wind power development.
