The PV-Compare project has been established as a comparative test of different commercially available photovoltaics technologies at two locations, Oxford, UK and Mallorca, Spain. This allows the technologies to be tested side-by side and under a wide range of climatic conditions. This work has determined the relative energy yields of the technologies and the reasons behind the observed patterns in performance. Amorphous silicon gives greater yields per W{sub}p in Mallorca due to its good performance under elevated temperatures. Amorphous silicon and copper indium diselenide give greater yields per kW{sub}p in the UK due to their good response to wavelengths between 400 and 500 nm which are prevalent in overcast conditions.
