In this contribution, we discussed the material properties of Cu(In,Ga)Se{sub}2 (CIGS) thin films, prepared by the selenization of thermally evaporated selenium-containing precursors. The structural and optical properties of the quartenary chalcopyrite thin films are correlated against the Ga concentration. We indicate that a classical two-step growth process can be utilized to produce single-phase absorber films with superior structural properties in which the band gap is continuously shifted to higher values with increasing Ga/In+Ga atomic ratio.
