摘要

Previous studies of the characteristics and kinetics for water adsorption on active carbon have shown the mechanism to involve initial adsorption on surface functional groups, with progressive adsorption leading to cluster formation around the initial adsorption sites before pore filling at high relative pressures. The presence of oxygen functional groups is very important in the adsorption of water and the role these species play in the adsorption dynamics and thermodynamic properties of adsorption system require further study. The determination of the effect of oxygen containing surface species on the adsorption characteristics of active carbon will be useful in the development of filters for emissions control where competitive adsorption is a significant problem.
