A survey is given of the experimental studies of electron-ion recombination in liquid rare gases and other nonpolar dense molecular media such as supercritical and solid rare gases, and liquid hydrocarbons and tetramethylsilane(TMS), in which rate constants for electron-ion recombination (k_r) and electron drift mobilities (μ_e) have been measured and compared with the theoretical rate constants(K_D). The values of k_r in high mobility media, i.e.,in liquid rare gases, are much smaller than those of k_D, which is called the breakdown of the Debye theory, stimulating a lot of new theoretical investigations.
