A new characterization method was developed to examine the internal structure of a ceramic green body. Important structures examined with the method include, porosity and large particles in a ceramic green body. The method uses a confocal laser scanning fluorescence microscope, and the principle of the liquid immersion method. A high resolution image is constructed from the distribution of the immersion liquid and the fluorescent dye in the compact, providing the negative image of the packing structure of the powder. The compaction of granulated powder was examined with this method. High resolution images could distinguish the difference in structure of compacts formed in a dry and wet atmosphere.
