It's a real pleasure to be here today. I'd like to thank the Illinois Mining Institute for this opportunity to address this group. I'd like to commend each of the teams that will participate in the mine rescue contest tomorrow. I'd also like to congratulate the Sentinels of Safety winners that were announced earlier this week. One of the winners hails from Illinois Material Service Corporation's Thornton Quarry has won in the Quarry Group. They achieved 208,816 employee work hours without an injury that resulted in lost work days in 2000. Congratulations to Thornton Quarry and all the other winners! Dave Lauriski, MSHA's newly appointed Assistant Labor Secretary, regrets that he was unable to be here today, but he has asked me to pass along some of his views and goals for the Agency-as he sees them-for the next four years.
