In an effort to specify standards for the next generation of simulation modeling and execution methodologies, this paper explores the behavior of a large-scale system whose state evolution results from the coordinated execution of tasks across several distributed subsystems. Definitions are initially provided for the basic system components including tasks, processes and controllers. The event sequence that occurs as tasks are distributed across the command and control is then discussed. Careful attention is given to what state changes must occur and which controller is responsible for managing the execution of the essential tasks that are need to effect the desired state transitions. It is demonstrated that a recursive pattern does emerge pertaining to the order in which events can occur. Future extensions of this work will be given at the presentation.
