Prospects of charge-transfer pumping of laser-produced ions are discussed. The results of numerical simulation of the problem are presented. By means of laser-produced plasma a selective population of O~(+5) ion following a charge transfer interaction O~(+6)+H_2 is studied. A distribution among the sublevels s, p, d, f of the most preferably populated 4 level is measured for the first time at relatively low colliding velocities ~2·10~7 cm/s.
