A model for package air-conditioning units that can accurately replicate equipment performance data is described in this paper. The model is suitable for use in building energy simulation programs. The performance of each component is described with mechanistic models using the Engineering Equation Solver (EES) software package (Klein and Alvarado (1999). Generally available manufacturer catalog data are employed to determine the model parameters. Using characteristic parameters based on manufacturer's performance data allows extrapolation of performance data to different operating conditions. The method has been successfully used to predict the full load performance of package air-conditioning systems over the range of operating conditions.
