Experiments on static lateral loading of pipe pile models bored in very dense sand were carried out in the LCPC centrifuge in Nantes (France). Experimental devices and procedure of testing are described. The model was instrumented by 12 pairs of strain gauges for determining the bending moment curves. Fitting procedure of these curves by quintic spline functions and successive differentiation and integration have led to construct the load-transfer P-Y curves along the pile. The analysis of the subgrade reaction modulus has shown a linear increase with depth and good correlation with the cone resistance measured by a miniature penetrometer during the test. The results obtained were compared with prediction of the current design methods.
