EVALUATION OF THE PREDIKTOR WIND POWER FORECASTING TOOL IN IRELAND

The ambitious plans of the Irish Government to increase the penetration of wind energy into the electricity system are outlined. The Irish electricity system is briefly described and the requirements for a wind power forecasting tool are identified. The ongoing project to apply and evaluate the Prediktor wind power forecasting tool in Ireland over a one year trial period is described. The use made of Prediktor by the ESB National Grid power system operators is described. Preliminary results of the evaluation of the performance of Prediktor in Irish conditions are presented.
